Late September 2007 update: The troop has narrowed the choices down to two: Camp Alexander or Camp Orr.

Pikes Peak Council - Camp Alexander,
just south of Lake George, Colorado, at an elevation of between 8200 and 8600
feet. The camp fee for 2007 was $205. This trip will require air travel and
ground transportation from Colorado Springs.

Westark Area Council -
Camp Orr on the
Buffalo River south of Harrison, Arkansas. Nearly 600 acres of the scenic
Buffalo National River Wilderness Area are available for long-term summer
camping. See the video on the website.

The 2007 camp fee was about $170, as discerned from a troop website that has
portions of the camp leaders guide information. The camp can be reached in
about 10 hours driving time.

Archival List of Summer Camps considered for 2008:
Scouts and parents, please review the camps below so that
you can vote a preference for next summer. From the Patrol
Leaders Council, the Scouts suggested that we look at California camps as
well as others we have previously visited or considered.
We seek an affordable summer camp experience with a solid base camp program
of First Class emphasis and merit badges, high adventure opportunities for
our Scouts 13 years and older, good food and facilities, as well as a
quality staff. Several of these have most or all of these qualities.

Los Angeles Area Council - Forest Lawn Scout
Reservation in the San Bernardino Mountains near Lake
Arrowhead. Elevation is 5300'. The camp encompasses 2000 acres. 2007 camp
fee was $300 for out-of-council Scouts. Ground transportation cost from the
airport to the camp is not known.

Western Los Angeles Area Council - Camp Emerald Bay
on Catalina Island. The 2007 camp fee is not clear from the Leaders Guide,
but it is at least $200 and probably close to $300. Additionally, there is a
ferry fee of $59 round trip. Ground transportation cost from the airport to
the ferry not known.

Longhorn Council - Sid Richardson Scout Ranch
is near Bridgeport, Texas. The troop went to this
camp during June 2004. There are 2500 acres of challenge and fun along the
shores of Lake Bridgeport. The 2007 camp fee was $195. This camp can be
reached in about six hours driving time.

Great Smoky Mountain Council - Camp Buck Toms
is near Rockwood, Tennessee. The 2007 camp fee was $210. Program elements
are similar to Rainey Mountain (2007) and Camp Daniel Boone (2005). Travel
arrangements would be similar to what we did for Rainey Mountain.
