Suggestions from Mr. Carey

bulletRecommend increasing weight 5# every two weeks up to 25% of body weight for Scouts.
bulletAdults can start with 20# and increase to 25% body weight or 50# at a similar rate.
bulletWear the boots and socks you will use on the trek.
bulletBring rain gear.
bulletBring and drink 1 liter of water per hour.
bulletRecommend MOHAB Crew do 8-10 mile levee hikes after a few  4-5 mile hikes.
This will accelerate the Hiking Merit Badge.  Average time for 4+ miler has
been about 1:30-1:45 including 2 rest stops.
bulletIn past years we also did an optional early Sunday morning levee hike.
bulletThe Saturday hikes by themselves are insufficient training.  Scouts and
adults should begin a daily training program if not already involved in
some sort of aerobic training.
