Updates (April 26):
-
Postponement: No
Swimming Merit Badge class on Wednesday, April 26! This
class is postponed to May 3. On May 3, meet at Mr.
Hotze's house, not the Country Club.
- The final
meeting will be a classroom session on Wednesday, May 10, 5:30pm-7:30pm, in
the church library.
Mr. Hotze, our Scoutmaster Emeritus, will offer a Troop 828 Swimming Merit
Badge class in April, for the 7th year in a row. The majority of the swimming
requirements for Second Class, First Class, and the Swimming Merit Badge can
all be completed with three sessions in the pool in April and a classroom
session sometime in May.
This class requires parent volunteers! We'll need 1-3 adults per session.
Please contact Candy Bourgeois (crbourg@alltel.net
or 281.980.7066) if you
are available to assist.
- The pool sessions will be held at the Sweetwater
Country Club indoor
pool on Wednesdays April 5th, 12th, and 26th.
- Each session will start promptly at 5:30pm and end by
7:00pm.
- There is a $2.00 per session fee for use of the pool.
Please
bring $6 to the first session. (If you are a member of Sweetwater Country
Club there is no fee.)
- Scouts should wear a swim suit, a T-shirt, and shoes
that can get wet. Bring a towel and (optionally) goggles.
- Shoes or
sandals are to be worn to and from the parking lot.
- No siblings--only SCOUTS are allowed because we cannot
handle the liability.
- Swimming is one of the Eagle-required merit badges.
This is a great
badge to get, especially if you're planning to pursue canoeing or whitewater
rafting at summer camp. Scouts must attend all sessions to get the merit
badge. Scouts should be capable of swimming using at least 3 of 5
required strokes prior to entering class (front crawl or trudgen, back crawl,
sidestroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke).
- Some parental help will be needed at the pool sessions.
- The requirements for each rank should be reviewed in the handbook prior
to the first meeting. See
the merit badge requirements
here or in the
swimming merit badge book (visit the
Scout shop
in Stafford).
- Sign up at the March 20th troop meeting.
