Cot information for summer camp

Information from Mrs. Bourgeois about cots (May 18):

When the scouts went with SHAC to Jamboree they each had a small carry-on + 1 large duffel bag + 1 collapsible cot in its own case or packed in the duffel bag.

Here is more information regarding cots that can be checked as luggage.  I picked up [my son's] at Academy ... it had the right dimensions and came in it's own zippered carry bag.

If the scouts decide to not take a cot, the cots in the tents should be fine.  However, they will need some type of padding since the cots provided are open metal frame spring cots with no padding.  The camp suggest cardboard or other padding otherwise the sleeping bag will be on top of the springs.

(And from Mr. Brown concerning the Jamboree last year:)

Below is additional information about two cots I have found that will easily fit in a duffle bag and weigh about 6.5 to 7.5  pounds.

The first is made by Texsport (www.texsport.com/furniture.html).  I have found it at Gander Mountain (US 290 at Highway 6) for $19.95.  It is almost exactly like the one from Campmor shown below.  I have not found anything like it at the Academy near my house.  I have not had any opportunity to check Oshman's or REI.

The second is from Campmor (www.campmor.com) for $22.99 plus shipping and the information and illustration is below.

(Also from Mr. Brown concerning the Jamboree last year:)

Due to the airline restrictions on luggage (62 linear inches [H x W x L]) and weight (50#), it is going to be extremely difficult to find a cot that is light enough, and small enough, to fit in the duffle bag. Therefore, we are going to allow Scouts to bring a cot as a second piece of checked luggage. You should, however, be aware of the following:
