April 27: This
event has been cancelled---not enough people signed up. We
may try again this summer.
Email from Mr. Tolle (April 20, 2004):
Troop 828 Scouts and Parents,
We are planning a Texas Rock Gym lock-in in
mid-May, and
we need to find out whether enough scouts are
interested.
We need at least 20 scouts and at least 5 or 6
adults.
We had a preliminary sign-up at the April 19
Troop meeting,
and fell short of those numbers, so we're trying
again,
by email this time.
Whether you signed up on April 19 or not, if
you're interested
in going, please respond as soon as possible via
email to
If we get enough interest, we'll do it.
Otherwise, we'll cancel it
and think about it again next year.
Here's how the lock-in would work:
Who: Scouts and registered adults from Troop
828. We'll have
the entire Rock Gym to ourselves.
Leave: Friday, May 14 at 10:00pm, from the
church, arriving at the Rock
Gym by 11:00pm.
Return: Saturday, May 15 at 7:45am. (We'll
leave the Rock Gym at 7:00am
and drive back to the church,
arriving about 7:45am.)
Where: We'll meet in the parking lot of St.
Laurence Catholic Church Friday night
and drive to the Texas Rock
Gym in League City (near Interstate 45,
about two miles south of Nasa Road
1). [The Memorial location of the
Rock Gym is not available on May 14.]
What: A 1-hour rock-climbing introduction,
followed by a full night of rock-climbing,
pizza, drinks, movies, general fun,
and (optionally) sleeping.
Bring: Pillow and either sleeping bag or
blanket. Optionally: bring video games
and game-players. We'll provide a TV
and some movies (rated G or PG).
Cost: $25/person.
Waivers: Will have to be signed by parents
before the scout is allowed to participate.
