GENEALOGY MERIT BADGE
Submitted by Candy Bourgeois
Are you ready to become an Ancestor Detector? The Buffalo Patrol has requested that a class be held to kick off the Genealogy MB and allow them to take advantage of a project they did in school. If you have a dusty 5th grade project you would like to take advantage of, then you are welcome to join us. If this is your first time to explore the history of your family, then there is no time like the present to explore the past … collect the information before it vanishes.
ALL TROOP 828 SCOUTS
are welcome to sign up for the MB class.
Sign up: May 3rd at Troop
Meeting or e-mail Mrs. Bourgeois at crbourg@alltel.net
Class: Wednesday, May 5th
4:00-5:00pm at St. Laurence in Room A/B
Please be on time since we are
planning 30 minutes for explanation and then 30 minutes for Q&A and signoff
completed requirements.
The room will be open with adult supervision at 3:30 if you need to come directly from school.
Please BRING to class:
• Pen and Paper
• Proof of a genealogical
document (birth certificate, parent's marriage certificate or family relative's
death certificate) for requirement 5
If you attended Mrs. Murat's class at St. Laurence, then please BRING to class your Genealogy Report which should already include:
• Pedigree (ancestral) Chart
for requirement 2
• Notes from interview of older
relative for requirement 4
• Time Line for requirement 7a
The Genealogy MB is one that the scout can complete independently and then follow up with the MB Counselor when they have completed the tasks. I'll make myself available throughout the summer so that scouts can gain the final review/signature and turn in the completed card for recognition at the September Court of Honor!
