BASTROP CAMPOUT
By: Ryan K.
The Bastrop campout was very fun. First, we had to buy a lot of food
with our patrols before we went. It took about two hours to get to the
State Park. When we got there we had to put our personal gear and tent up. It
was really cold that night. Then the work started Saturday morning. We had to
bring everything from the trailer up to the campsite. After all the work was
finished we ate breakfast. Most of the troops had bacon and eggs but we had
sausage and eggs. We all had to do K.P. Then, we went to first aide class.
When the class ended myself and other scouts went hiking. We explored a
lot. At lunch we ate hot dogs and chips. It was very good. After lunch,
Jason took us out for a long game of capture the flag. It was very fun. We ate
spaghetti and garlic bread for dinner. We mixed all the tomato sauce. We
finally got to light the fire. For desert we had ice cream and peach
cobbler. When we had finished eating our desert Jason told us scary stories that
scared some of the scouts out of their pants. In the morning we had to work a
lot. It was worth it. We then ate breakfast and went home tired, wet, and
cold.

Even though it was very wet and cold, I must say that the Bastrop campout was one of the best campouts I've every been to. We completed many requirements, including some of the carries for our first aid merit badge. We also had a great time playing capture the flag in the forest, and some us fell in the creeks! We had a great campfire, even though very brief, and we had some great spaghetti that night. On Sunday morning we had breakfast on the run, and all of us were glad to be back home.

My father checked the weather and he told me it would be cold and dry. Boy was he wrong! We arrived at the campsite and carried all our gear across a bridge down to the camp. It was colder than I thought it would be as we set up the tent.
Kyle and Corey A. were my tent mates. We woke up early and started breakfast. It was good. We took a first-aid class. We learned to carry an injured person. We had hot dogs for lunch.
After lunch we played capture the flag. It was so much fun, we played about five rounds, then time to make supper so we did. We had good spaghetti. Then we had a campfire and it wt out once and they set it up again. Then I got really tired so I went to bed. I woke up we packed up the trailer with all the stuff. Then we ate breakfast, which was donuts and orange juice. It was drizzling when we left. When we arrived in Houston we unloaded the trailer and put stuff in our car and went home.
