Procedure for Flag Distribution
Morning Shift:
- A list that shows the houses that will receive a flag
will be emailed to the adult in charge of the event.
- Scouts and adults meet at the shed (by the parking lot behind the church) at 6:30 a.m. in Class B uniform
(red shirt) – No open toe shoes.
- Remember, it is early and we do not want to wake anyone up!
- Retrieve the flags and holders from the shed and load them into the
vehicles.
- Drive to the
Colony Woods neighborhood.
- Parents drive slowly up and down the street while the
boys walk along setting the flags up. One scout places the holder in the
ground while the other scout places the flag in the holder. Flags are
placed near the curb (not the yard) at an angle.
- Once all the flags are set up in Colony Woods, drive to
the
Austin Park
neighborhood and finish putting the flags up.
Afternoon Shift:
- A list that shows the houses that will receive a flag
will be emailed to the adult in charge of the event.
- Scouts and adults meet at the shed (by the parking lot behind the church) at
7:00 p.m. in Class B uniform
(red shirt) – No open toe shoes.
- Drive to the
Colony Woods neighborhood and then the
Austin Park
neighborhood.
- Parents drive slowly up and down the street while the
boys walk along picking the flags up. One scout places the flag in the
van/truck while the other scout places the holder in the van/truck.
- Once all the flags and holders are picked up and
counted (from Colony Woods and Austin Park) they need to be placed neatly
back in the shed at the church.
Basic Rules:
- DO NOT USE THE FLAG POLE AS A PRY BAR TO LOOSEN UP THE
FLAG HOLDER IN THE GROUND. If you can't pull the holder straight out of the
ground, then get a stronger scout or an adult to help.
- No riding side-car in the car carrying scouts behind
the flag vehicle.
- Save "put up time" by rolling the flags up correctly
when putting the flags back in the flag vehicle.
