(For a weekend camping trip)
CLOTHING (adjust according to weather forecast):
- Full Field Uniform: Always wear Class "A"
uniform to and from Scout trips
- Hat with brim
- Backpack or duffel bag
- 2 T-shirts (Troop or scouting-related preferable.
NO inappropriate T-shirts, e.g., tobacco, heavy metal, liquor)
- 2 pair underwear (minimum)
- 2 pair socks (no holes---they'll cause blisters when
hiking!)
- 1 pair short pants
- 1 pair long pants
- Handkerchief or bandanna
- Long-sleeve T-shirt or turtleneck
- Jacket or sweater
- Knit cap and gloves
- Rain gear (poncho or raincoat)
- Appropriate shoes/boots (boots to hike in, tennis shoes for
campsite)
- "Mudders" for sloppy conditions
PERSONAL ITEMS:
- Soap
- Shampoo
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Washcloth
- Towel
- Comb/brush
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS:
- Sun screen
- Sunglasses
- Mosquito repellent
- Camera
CAMPING AND HIKING GEAR:
- Drinking cup (insulated to remain cool while drinking hot
chocolate)
- Bowl, or plate with high sides
- Spoon and fork
- Pocketknife (folding blade, locking preferable---shorter
than width of the boy's hand.) Requires "Totin' Chip".
- Canteen or water bottle (with caribiner to attach to belt)
- Flashlight and fresh batteries
- Sleeping bag (with liner) or two blankets
- Small pillow or stuff sack
- Sleeping pad
- First aid kit (optional)
- Emergency whistle
- Compass
- Boy Scout Handbook
- Notebook and pen or pencil
- Clear waterproof plastic bags (e.g., 2-gallon size Ziploc)
to store clothes
- Camping chair (must be small)
NO FOOD IN TENTS! (You
don't want raccoons or ants raiding your tent in the middle of the night!)
ADULTS (IN ADDITION TO THE ITEMS ABOVE):
- Personal tent with ground cloth
- Camping chair of whatever size you wish
- No cigarettes
- No alcohol
- No liquid fuels (including cigarette lighters)
Note: Pack all spare clothes and sleeping gear in plastic bags
or water-resistant luggage.
