(Sept., 2006): Adult volunteer needed to lead the troop's American Flag distribution business---historically the troop's primary fund-raising activity---for the next 12 months, and coordinate its expansion to additional neighborhoods.

(Sept., 2006): Troop Adult Leaders and Parents:

We need more volunteers who are willing to step up and be Merit Badge Counselors for some of the Eagle-required Merit Badges.  The troop would like to
hold at least one session for each Eagle-required MB every 3 years. Currently we do not have a Merit Badge Counselor for the following: Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the World,
Communications, Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Science, Lifesaving.  Please contact Candy Bourgeois if you are interested.

Adult Canoe Training

Mr. Rankin writes (August 7, 2005):

We need trained adults in Flatwater canoeing.  This trained position is required for the troop to go on any canoeing trip, but it doesn't cover the higher-skilled white-water canoeing trips.  But the troop normally has gone on only flatwater trips.  Not having a trained adult resulted in the postponement of this year's canoeing trip.  The training needed is the "Yellow Card" certification taught on Sept. 10-11 OR Sept. 17-18 - see the 2005 SHAC Canoe Class dates below.  Use the other links below to get registered for the class.

In the past it has been a requirement that there be a trained adult leader per 10 scouts on a flatwater trip.  So in order to go a canoe trip with the numbers we have had in the past, Troop 828 needs at least 3 trained adults minimum.  The more the better.

If you are interested in getting the certification, please review all the attachments and sign up for one of the training sessions.  If you do, please let me know.  Hopefully we will be able to go on a canoe trip on September 24 - provided we get trained leaders.

Here is some background information from the VIRTUS website:

Protecting Children

Child sexual abuse is a worldwide public health issue. Child abuse, particularly child sexual abuse, is reprehensible—especially when the wrongdoer is affiliated with the Church. The VIRTUS® programs assist the Church in being a safe haven for children and a messenger for preventing child sexual abuse within the Church and society in general. We seek to achieve this lofty goal through our child sexual abuse prevention program: PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN?.

The PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN? Program

Most organizations that work with children have some sort of child safety program. Through the PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN program, we maximize those efforts by helping churches and religious organizations refine their roles as child safe environments and empowering them with new tools to help them, and adults and parents, protect children.
