Village Creek Canoe Trip: May 16-17

 

Where:  Village Creek near Silsbee, TX (about twenty miles north of Beaumont). References are http://www.texascanoetrips.com/ and http://southwestpaddler.com/docs/neches7.html

 

Length: 19 miles, with the goal of 12-14 miles on Saturday and the remainder on Sunday morning.  The trip will be from FM 418 to US 96.

 

Camping: Overnight on the creek

 

Food: Prepared in advance for the group.  Includes Saturday individual snack packs, lunch (sandwich, chips, drink, and fruit) and hot dinner, Sunday breakfast and snack packs.

 

Equipment: Troop tents for the Scouts and personal tents for the adults, ground cloths, lanterns, cooking gear, and stoves.  Personal gear and packing recommendations will be shared shortly.

 

Cost:  Cost is $33 for those over 12 years old and $25 for 12 and under. For those with their own canoe, the fee will be $9 for food.  Make your payment at the May 4 troop meeting!

 

Our canoe reservations have to be finalized ten days ahead of the trip.  If not paid by May 6, one cannot participate.  The fee includes canoe rental and shuttle from the Eastex Canoe Trails site to the put-in point on the creek as well as shuttle from the take-out point back to Eastex.  Food costs will be $8 per person.  The remainder will cover gas for pulling the troop trailer.
